Senior housing development was the topic today in the Minneapolis Star Tribune as the paper covered a panel discussion yesterday that featured several Ecumen development team members as panelists.  Mary Bujold of Maxfield Research provided a sneak preview of their annual senior housing survey that looks at the Twin Cities market and will be released in the coming weeks.

The survey shows just 416 new units of senior housing this year in the seven-county metro area -- the lowest number since 1991. But Bujold expects that will more than double next year and reach more than 1,000 units in 2012. That's approaching levels seen in the late 1990s but still well below the product cranked out during the boom years earlier this decade.

Contributing to those numbers are the new Ecumen Seasons at Maplewood community in Maplewood and Ecumen Seasons at Apple Valley, which is under construction
