Increasingly senior housing communities are being built in neighborhoods, which promote walkability and empower  people with easier access to amenities such as shopping, libraries and others.  It's a smart lifestyle and health trend, and it's what people want as outlined in a new study commissioned by the National Association of Realtors entitled:  The 2011 Community Preference Survey:  What Americans are Looking for When Deciding Where to Live.

Defining “walkable” communities as those where shops, restaurants and local businesses are within walking distance from homes, the study shows that when considering where to live, 77% of respondents said they seek neighborhoods with sidewalks and other pedestrian-friendly features.
