What is Home In Senior Housing?
Community:
“A group of people living in the same locality and under the same government” “Sharing, participation, and fellowship”
Home:
“The place in which one’s domestic affections are centered”
Regardless of the word used to describe your immediate environment, both have an emotional and psychological underpinning that cannot be denied. Home imparts a sense of safety and security; a sense of control over one’s surroundings. Meanwhile, community elicits a deep sense of connectedness. As social creatures, humans need connectivity to others, to a shared sense of purpose, to their environment.
What is important in congregate senior living that elicits a sense of home or connectedness? What makes you as a resident, prospective resident, or their family member comfortable in knowing there is a sense of home or community for you or your loved one to share?
