While the death of the condo boom in many urban areas has taken its toll on construction of infrastructure projects that would bring seniors into the big city, the allure of activity, proximity to public transportation, city parks, shopping, the arts, sporting events, and services are still a major draw to more active seniors.

The movement toward sustainable green projects, as well as the price of fuel, has also led to more urban living environments. In the current economy, there will also be many potential retirees working much later into their lives than expected, which adds to the benefit of living close to the workplace.

As these seniors age and become more entrenched in their urban communities, the need to deliver community based services and provide service-based housing options nearby, promoting aging-in-place, will continue to increase.
