According to an article written by the Los Angeles Times, “Niche communities represent the future of senior housing because of the sheer size of the baby boomer population”, indicating that there will likely be a “niche senior housing community for every interest group”. The article goes on to describe several niche senior housing options already available throughout the United States including:

Nikkei Senior Gardens – that caters to older adults that love to garden including offering individual garden plots and a mini fruit orchard and an artfully designed Japanese Garden.

Burbank Senior Artists Colony – catering to creative seniors searching for their inner artist.

Collegete Senior Housing – there are now more than 80 university based senior housing communities either open or on the drawing boards for older adults interested in taking classes, visiting the library and arts centers, or catch the big game on campus.

Gay & Lesbian Senior Housing – several communities around the country cater to gay older adult residents including Triangle Square in Hollywood, CA and RainbowVision in Santa Fe, NM.

RVers: Happy trails can become a very bumpy road when older adults become too tired or old to drive but have an RV they call home.
